If you could close your eyes and go anywhere, where would you go? I’ve been quite lucky, traveling frequently to exotic locations. At 23, I’ve traveled to 10 US States, Canada, UAE, Qatar, Tanzania, Zanzibar(Tanzania island), Netherlands, and the Dominican Republic. I’ve met people along the way and each destination has left a lasting imprint on my life. The more I travel, the more educated I become. This world we live in is full of wonder, diversity, and new experiences. So, let’s get going!
I love the wonderment of traveling the world. Boarding an aircraft and seeing how big our world truly is excites me. What do you see from 10,000 feet? Seeing new places, and trying new things. When you travel, you meet new people and you are able to grow in your understanding of the world and cultures within it.
Before I travel and tour a place, I research the region that I am going to. I try to learn about the history, the culture, and the people. It is essential that you are respectful of other cultures, their beliefs and their way of life; especially as a guest. I enjoy immersing myself in the culture. What fun is it to travel to a new place but stay in your comfort zone? I love to see what it would be like to live there; imagining how my life would be different.
One practice that I have adapted is making a bucket list for each trip. A detailed list of things that I want to accomplish while I am there. Experiences that I can look back on for years to come finding joy in those moments. When I make my bucket list, I don’t look up popular activities that tourists normally complete. Instead, I think about myself, what I love. For instance, in Tanzania, I spent a day visiting schools and meeting with children. Not because it was a popular choice, but, because at home I’m a teacher, and there’s nothing that I love more.
Traveling and tourism are opportunities to grow. To push yourself forward in a positive direction. If you come home from a trip and you’re the same person that left, did you really travel? Did you push yourself to experience new things and question your lifestyle? The next time you get on a plane, think about who you want to be when you come back home and how you are going to accomplish that. In the comment section below, tell me your favorite travel destination and how it impacted your life.
